L’INHUMAINE

L’INHUMAINE

Marcel L’Herbier’s restored masterpiece in a new book / Blu-ray edition!

Claire Lescot, haughty and mysterious opera singer, seems to despise humanity. A young admirer kills himself for her. She sings despite the tragedy but cannot remain insensitive…

An emblem of French cinema, L’Inhumaine is a combination of the arts. Architectures by Robert Mallet-Stevens, set designs by Fernand Léger, Alberto Cavalcanti and Claude Autant-Lara, costumes by the great designer Paul Poiret… Marcel L’Herbier surrounded himself with prestigious avant-garde collaborators to direct a rare Art-Deco film, a true symbol of French cinema.

This book reveals some never-before-seen photographs of the film that show its immense artistic richness. You will discover the set, the film crew, the extravagant costumes, behind the scenes…
These images are complemented by a Blu-ray of the restored version, on a musical score by Aidje Tafial, loosely based on Darius Milhaud’s lost score.
